Palair MLA Venkat Reddy Passes Away

HYDERABAD:  Chairman of Telangana Legislative Assembly Public Accounts Committee (PAC) and five-time MLA Ramreddy Venkat Reddy passed away battling prolonged illness at a corporate hospital in the city on Friday afternoon.

Venkat Reddy (72), who represented Palair Assembly constituency in Khammam district, was suffering from lung cancer and was admitted to hospital hospital some days back. He breathed his last around 3.20 pm on Friday.

Venkat Reddy, who hailed from an agricultural family, completed his BA from Osmania University before entering politics. He was elected the sarpanch of Patilingala, his native village in Kamepalli mandal of Khammam district.

After three unsuccessful attempts, Venkat Reddy was elected to the State Assembly from Sujathnagar constituency in 1996.  After the delimitation of constituencies, Venkat Reddy shifted to Palair constituency and won from there twice.

Venkat Reddy served as horticulture minister in the cabinets of Y S Rajasekhara Reddy and N Kiran Kumar Reddy.  After the death of senior leader P Kista Reddy, Venkat Reddy was nominated by the party for the post of Public Accounts Committee of the Assembly.

His mortal remains have been brought to his residence in Banjara Hills and would be taken to his native village to perform final rites on Saturday afternoon.

He is survived by wife and four daughters.
