Temple Land in Karimnagar Encroached

KARIMNAGAR:  Land sharks in the district have encroached upon crores worth of precious land of the ancient Sri Giddeperumandla Swamy temple at Kothirampur in Karimnagar town. Two residential and a commercial structure have come up on the temple land, which comes under 410 survey number in the said area.

According to temple records, the endowments department owns nearly 9.39 acres in the 410 survey number. Of this, 10 guntas of land was encroached and private structures have come up. Meanwhile,  temple authorities have not issued notices against the encroachers.

In the past, the temple had nearly 14.35 acres in the said survey number.

As per the then government orders, it sold out 1.2 acres for government school building in 1986, 2 acres to Housing Society of Endowments department in 1982 and 1.16 acres for public health department to construct water tanks in 1997. Encroachers initially laid thatched structures but later constructed concrete structures. Locals and temple devotees are demanding to protect land of the temple.
