NIZAMABAD:Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao is likely to make an announcement on Aug 10 on release of water from Singur project to Nizam Sagar project to help ongoing sowing activity in five Assembly constituencies of erstwhile Nizamabad district.

The CM is expected to visit the district for laying foundation stone for SRSP remodelling in Pochampad village. Farmers and Opposition parties are strongly demanding release of water from Singur and declaring Singur to be used to fulfil needs of Nizamabad district. Previously TRS leaders including Agriculture minister Pocharam Srinivas Reddy led agitations on this demand. It is learnt that district MLAs and MLCs including the minister urged KCR to release 8 tmcft water to Nizamsagar project to meet the demand.

Irrigation officials wrote to their higher officials asking for release of around 6 tmcft of water from Singur to Nizamsagar project but they did not get any reply. State-level Irrigation officials meeting will be held on August 8 and the officials may take a decision on that, sources said.
Singur project full level is 29 tmcft and as of now the reservoir has 17 tmcft. The department will take a decision keeping in mind Hyderabad’s drinking water needs, Water Grid and agricultural demand in Medak district. An irrigation official expects that the department may take a decision on release of 4 tmcft water from Singur and the same will be announced by the CM in the public meeting.
