KHAMMAM: A pillar of an under-construction bridge on River Godavari near Bhadrachalam collapsed on Wednesday. The incident created panic among the people. According to information, a low quality material was being used for its construction. Earlier, state government sanctioned H120 crore for construction of a new bridge on river Godavari.
A private construction agency got tender and started construction work two years ago. Though two years have passed, there has hardly been any progress in the works.
Locals alleged that the bridge works have been going at a snail’s pace and low-quality material is being used for the construction. Meanwhile, engineering officials said that the pillar works were not satisfying. As a result, they have removed it and are constructing a new pillar.
