‘SC’s order gives legitimacy to NIA probe’

The role of the National Investigation Agency (NIA) in probing Love Jihad has (been) given some kind of legitimacy by the observations made by Supreme Court, said Kiren Rijiju.

HYDERABAD: The role of the National Investigation Agency (NIA) in probing Love Jihad has (been) given some kind of legitimacy by the observations made by Supreme Court, said Kiren Rijiju Union minister of State for Home Affairs. The minister was responding to questions about the case involving alleged radicalization of a Hindu woman, post her conversion to Islam and her marriage to a Muslim.

“When the case is being investigated I would prefer not to comment on the matter. This is a pattern that is visible, me being from the home ministry it won’t be right no my part to speak any further on the matter,” he added. The SC on Wednesday had tasked NIA to probe, but under the guidance of a retired SC judge. He was speaking during the Youth Convention organised in Hyderabad on Thursday.
