HYDERABAD: Expressing displeasure over the decision of the vice-chancellor of NTR University of Health Sciences with regard to appointing internal examiners, Hyderabad High Court on Friday cancelled the internal examination of PG general surgery, Osmania Medical College, held from May 29 to June 1.

It has also imposed costs of `5,000 to be paid by NTR university vice-chancellor and OMC principal to petitioner Dr Deen Dayal Bung,  who is the professor and HOD of department of general surgey in OMC.
Justice M S Ramachandra Rao was passing this order in a writ petition filed by Dr Bung challenging the order passed by the NTR varsity vice-chancellor.

According to petitioner’s counsel K Lakshmi Narasimha, the university vice-chancellor has appointed Dr Deen Dayal Bung as internal examiner even after a letter of request of the OMC principal to appoint Dr A Srinivasa Chary as the internal examiner. On May 25, the V-C suddenly changed his mind and replaced Dr Bung with Dr Chary succumbing to pressures by the students.

After hearing the case, the judge wondered “whether  students can decide who should be the examiner and how the examination be held. If such a thing is allowed, it will create a chaos in the education profession. It is the duty of the V-C to maintain strict educational standards and uphold the dignity of teaching profession as a whole.”While allowing the petition, the judge directed the V-C to appoint other internal examiners with Dr Bung as one of them and three other professors and complete the internal examination within the next four weeks.
