A 19-year-old Intermediate dropout from Donthanapally village in Vikarabad district committed suicide by hanging himself from a tree on Sunday after allegedly losing money in betting.

HYDERABAD: A 19-year-old Intermediate dropout from Donthanapally village in Vikarabad district committed suicide by hanging himself from a tree on Sunday after allegedly losing money in betting.
Basupalli Vijay, recorded a video before dying, in which he said that he was taking the extreme step as he lost money in betting on Sunday. The cause of suicide came to be known on Friday after the video shot by himself came to light.

Shankarpally police initially thought that the teenager committed suicide because of the fight he had with his parents but the actual reason came to be known on Friday when the video was circulated among WhatsApp groups before it reached a policeman in the village.

According to police, Vijay was found hanging from a tree on the outskirts of the village on Sunday evening. A case of suspicious death was registered based on the complaint by his family.
The initial probe revealed that Vijay might have resorted to the extreme step when his parents refused to give him money.

“Nobody should be involved in betting. I am dying because of betting. Uncles and brothers and other members of my family, please do not engage in betting,” Vijay was seen saying in the video that was recovered by the police on Friday.

Shankarpally SI K Kranthi Kumar said Vijay, after discontinuing Inter in Hyderabad, moved to Donthanapally. On Sunday he had an argument with his father Bhikshapathi over money. Angered at being denied money, he left home in a huff and was later found hanging from a tree on their field by his father.
