MAHABUBABAD : A day after police registered a case against Mahabubabad MLA B Shankar Naik for allegedly misbehaving with district collector Preeti Meena during the launch of Haritha Haaram programme in the district, the MLA was arrested on Thursday morning and released on station bail by Mahabubabad Station House Officer (SHO) after fulfilling all the formalities.

According to Mahabubabad SP Koti Reddy, the MLA was summoned to the police station and arrested. Later, he was released on station bail by the SHO. He said Thorrur sub divisional police officer G Rajarathnam has been entrusted the case and a charge sheet would be filed as per the merit and findings of the investigation.

According to sources, though the police received online complaint filed by the collector against the MLA around 5.30 pm on Wednesday, they filed case against the latter around mid-night. The local police filed case after getting clearance from their higher authorities in Hyderabad and chief minister’s office.
After the MLA tendered apology to the collector at her camp office everyone thought that the issue was over, but in the next four hours, police were asked to register case against him. This has even surprised the local police.

Meanwhile, both the collector and MLA left to Hyderabad the same day. Preeti Meena attended the IAS Officer’s Association meeting while Shankar Naik, along with deputy chief minister Kadiyam Srihari, is likely to meet chief minister and explain his version of the incident.

Even opposition parties and government employees took exception to the MLA being released on station bail. Meanwhile, the IAS Officers Association in Hyderabad thanked chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao for the latter’s prompt reaction in MLA’s misbehaviour. Around 70 IAS officers were present.
