HYDERABAD: Postmen across Telangana have a new duty to dispense: that of a spy. These India post employees will now also gather information on those who procure LSD from darknet. Here is how. If a person from Telangana regularly receives parcels from South American, and European countries, the postman who delivers the parcel would be required to inform their superiors. Thereafter, sleuths of the Telangana Prohibition and Excise department will take care of the issue. Three international courier companies are also being contacted for the same.
It may be noted that drug peddlers from Hyderabad who used darknet to place orders for LSD blots, cocaine or other narcotics, used to receive the consignments through India Post service and other international courier services.
This was corroborated when sleuths of the Excise department found envelopes with stamps from Netherlands, Germany and other countries, during raids on peddlers. Telangana Prohibition and Excise department’s Enforcement Wing director Akun Sabharwal held a meeting with officials of India Post department’s Telangana circle to discuss issue of courier services used to ship consignments of narcotics to Hyderabad.
“The postmen would be asked to inform their higher officials if a person regularly receives parcels from South American or European countries. Also, we will write to three major international courier service companies to meet us,” Sabharwal said.
How it works
Any letter, parcel or courier which comes from foreign countries, first reaches the Foreign Mail Office where they are put under customs check. Thereafter, it is dispatched to its destination, said Dr PVS Reddy, post master general, India Post’s Telangana circle. He added that one of the indicator that will be given to postmen for the purpose is origin of the letters or parcels.
