HYDERABAD: The sensational drug racket case, which took Tollywood by storm, took an interesting turn on Wednesday with ace Tollywood director Puri Jagannadh reportedly admitting before the SIT that he has been doing drugs, albeit in small quantities.
However, the director uploaded a video to his twitter account at 11.16 pm on Wednesday in which he denied having done anything illegal, including using drugs. He said he told SIT officials that he had no links with Calvin Mascarenhas. He added that the media had ruined his life. He would present himself before the SIT whenever they required him to.
According to sources, he may be called again by the SIT. On Thursday, it is the turn of cinematographer Sham K Naidu to face the SIT officials. The questioning session of film personalities began on Wednesday with Puri Jagannadh driving into the Excise department’s office in Nampally, at around 10 a.m. accompanied by his brother Sairam Shanker and son Akash.
It is learnt that he initially tried to evade questions of the SIT by giving vague replies.
However, the situation changed after lunch when SIT confronted him with Call Data Record, showing calls made by him to Calvin, the drug peddler, and also photograph showing the film director, Calvin, and two others in it.
He then began spilling the beans and reportedly confessed to having links with Calvin. However, he is said to have denied buying narcotics from him or supplying it to others. The director cooperated when a microbiologist from Osmania Hospital collected blood, hair and nail samples which will be tested for the presence of drugs.
He was also asked whether other celebrities like Charmee, Shyam K Naidu, Mumaith Khan knew Calvin or purchased narcotics from him. Sources said he denied it.
He drove out of the Excise office only at 9.40 p.m.
