16 sand lorries vanish into thin air

A whopping 16 lorries carrying sand for a government welfare project has gone missing and revenue officials of the Nizamabad district are busy hunting them down.

NIZAMABAD: A whopping 16 lorries carrying sand for a government welfare project has gone missing and revenue officials of the Nizamabad district are busy hunting them down. Of the 19 lorries carrying sand from Pothangal quarry for 2BHK project in Nizamabad, only three reached the construction site. The R&B department, the construction agency, has informed the revenue officials.

The Nizamabad district administration had granted permission to the R&B department to bring sand from Pothangal quarry for construction of 2BHK houses. Now officials suspect middlemen could have stolen the sand and sold it in open market.

After the matter was taken up with higher officials, 4 empty lorries were tracked down. The authorities are still on the hunt for the remaining vehicles. Superintending Engineer of R&B department Madhusudhan Reddy said the issue was under limits of Revenue department.

When contacted, Nizamabad district incharge collector A Ravindar Reddy told Express that they had started an inquiry and would very soon find the remaining 12 lorries that are still missing. “It’s due to these reasons that the district administration is not keen on allowing government departments take up the sand transportation work,” an official told Express.
