PEDDAPALLI: A political war has broken out in the Manthani Assembly constituency, ahead of the 2019 general elections, between ruling party MLA P Madhu and former minister and Congress MLA from the area D Sridhar Babu.

Both are busy trying to woo cadre from each other’s camp. Recently, a close aide of Sridhar Babu and Kataram ZPTC Challa Narayana Reddy joined TRS. So did a few Sarpanches, MPPs and former ZPTCs.

In the meantime, Finance Minister Eatela Rajender has been frequenting the Manthani constituency. Kataram ZPTC joined TRS in the presence of Eatela Rajender. On the other hand, former MPTC of Borlagudem Vavilla Papaiah, from TRS, joined Congress in the presence of D Sridhar Babu in Hyderabad on Saturday. “Many dissidents and workers unhappy with TRS are ready to join Congress,” said a local Congress man.

Few months ago rebel TRS members voted for a Congress candidate electing him as the Mandal Praja Parishad president in Mahamuttaram. The turn of events happened after a mutual agreement between TRS leaders on sharing the post of MPP broke down.

In a fresh development, senior TDP leader in the constituency Karru Nagaiah has decided to join the TRS in the presence of the CM in Hyderabad on November 15.

Blame games have also intensified off late in the area. Recently, Congress picked up the case of a youngster’s suspicious death and blamed the TRS for the same. Sridhar Babu has been booked for his alleged participation in an attempt to frame a local TRS leader in a Ganja transportation case.
