HYDERABAD: The provisional results of the annual survey of industries (ASI) released by the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation (MoSPI) indicate a decline in the number of factories in Telangana. The 10,635 factories in the state employed a total of 6,56,397 workers in the financial year 2019–20. The non-value added (NVA) activity of these factories during this period was Rs 49,232 crore.

In the previous financial year of 2018–19, Telangana stood eighth with an NVA of Rs 48,681 crore and 15,167 factories.In 2018–19, there were 15,167 factories operating in the state that had engaged 6.59 lakh workers. In the subsequent year, it decreased to 6.56 lakh workers with the decline in factories. However, the total wages paid for the 6.56 lakh workers in the state saw a rise, albeit meagre, at Rs 9,889 crore, up from the previous year’s Rs 9,355 crore.

The money invested in the factories in Telangana is Rs 1,43,021 crore.A notable investment to be recalled in the state this year is that of the leading contract manufacturer of electronics, Foxconn, which announced board approval for $500 million to set up a manufacturing plant in Telangana.

The report shows that Telangana State Industrial Project Approval And Self Certification System (TS-iPASS), the government’s flagship initiative, attracted Rs 26,728 crore of investment in 2022–23 and guaranteed employment to a total of 1,02,045 individuals.

The total units approved stand at 3,183. In the same financial year, employment generation figures in shops and commercial establishments revealed that there were 6,56,984 workers employed in shops, 8,02,128 in commercial establishments, and a total of 91,692 in cinema theatres, hotels, and restaurants.
Total incentives sanctioned from 2014–15 to 2019–20 cumulatively under Telangana State Program for Rapid Incubation Dalit Entrepreneurs (TS-PRIDE) stood at Rs 2,754.50 crore. Under the Telangana Industrial Development and Entrepreneur Advancement (T-IDEA) and Industrial Investment Promotion Policy (IIPP), an amount of Rs 3,317.42 crore was sanctioned.
