HYDERABAD: A fire incident that occurred on Saturday night in Regimental Bazar took an unexpected turn when the police discovered Rs 1.67 crore in cash in the affected house. The incident prompted the Ramgopalpet police to register a case related to the fire accident, while the cash was handed over to the Income Tax department for further action.

According to police reports, the blaze erupted in a residence owned by B Srinivas, a deputy general manager of a private company, when the occupants were away. The fire was noticed by neighbours who alerted the police and fire officials. While extinguishing the fire, authorities discovered a cache of 15 to 20 gold and silver ornaments stored in wardrobes within the house.

More significantly, they also stumbled upon the cash. Acting on suspicions of the funds being associated with illicit activities like hawala, the police seized the valuables and handed them over to the Income Tax department.

Meanwhile, Srinivas, the proprietor of the house, informed the police that he possesses all the necessary documentation to account for the valuables. He expressed his intention to return to the city promptly to collaborate with the police and Income Tax officials in resolving the situation.
