HYDERABAD: Demanding recruitment of teachers in the vacant positions, over 600 teachers’ eligibility test (TET) unemployed youth staged a protest at the Directorate of School Education at Saifabad here on Monday.
The students met at the Directorate and presented a memorandum to G Kishan, director of school education. “We are qualified and trained for three years and are still jobless.
There are over 8,000 jobs but the government is sitting on them. Our demands are that when there is a qualified workforce available and there is demand for too why isn’t the government recruiting,” questioned Kanhaiya, a DEd holder.
He was happy that director heard their grievances and assured that they are waiting for go-ahead from government. Kishan, however, was not available for comment.
He also highlighted that with the government’s decision to run schools by engaging vidya volunteers or academic instructors is not a solution, and is, in fact, affecting the quality of education in government schools.
A fortnight ago the Supreme Court had expressed it displeasure over the lack of teachers in the state. The apex body directed the TS Public Service Commission to fill up the 8,792 vacant posts of teachers within three months.
The youngsters were also appalled that even after two weeks of the SC rapping the government, it had not taken any steps towards initiating the recruitment process. “We want to know how the government plans to fill thousands of vacancies.
Even though two weeks have passed since SC directive, nothing has happened. We are here to put pressure on government, because if it doesn’t listen to apex court, then we don’t know whom will it listen to,” said R Gopal, another participant.
