Band of Boys Rock it Out

Don’t ask them to explore too much beyond music. They won’t. For the band, Faridkot, riding on the high of composing and performing music is more intoxicating than any other proposition in the world. Getting their vocal and instrumental genius on to the rostrum at Fio Country Kitchen, the artistes talk to us about their new gig and things that keep them going.

A psychedelic rock arrangement based in the city, this five-piece band was formed in 2008 when IP Singh and Rajarshi Sanyal decided to create music that they could relate to. “It’s been great to be able to communicate through music. Melodies are more powerful than words, and they almost always convey what you set out to convey,” says Sanyal.

To prepare themselves before every performance, all the band members do push-ups. They sometimes even get competitive. “It’s fun when that happens, as it loosens up everybody,” says Sanyal, adding, “A performance can be tiring, especially when we’re touring. It’s important to conserve one’s resources, although, we do mess around with each other.”

The line-up will have musical notes from their first album Ek, including Haal-e-dil, Laila, Madho, Banjaare, Patjhad and Meherbaan. “We’ll also be performing a few songs from our second album, Phir Se, including Suno, Laparwah, Bijli, Mahi Ve, and many other old and new numbers,” says Singh
