B-Town Glitters at Cannes

Aishwarya Rai’s first appearance in a teal gown was average. Then she messed it up badly in a wine-coloured Oscar de la Renta body-hugging gown that let her flesh bits hang out.

Film buffs and fashion pundits are still glued onto red-carpet appearances by the Bollywood divas at the Cannes 2015. Among the battery of L’Oreal ladies—Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Sonam Kapoor and Katrina Kaif— Aishwarya made the maximum red-carpet appearances. After all she is a Cannes regular and was the only B-Town star at the Amfar gala.

If Sonam pulled it off in her blue Ralph and Russo couture gown, she got it all wrong with that Elie Saab gown that made her look like she had a bad day chasing chickens at the poultry. Her Ralph and Russo appearance couldn’t hide her big upper arms but was promptly rectified through photoshop. Sonam, the fashionista of Bollywood, also wore some Abu Jani and Sandeep Khosla in not-so-important outings. Aishwarya Rai’s first appearance in a teal gown was average. Then she messed it up badly in a wine-coloured Oscar de la Renta body-hugging gown that let her flesh bits hang out. Her experimentation with Ralph and Russo monochromatic gown exposed her not-so-flattering knees, but Aishwarya Rai Bachchan finally got it right with a lilac Elie Saab gown that she wore to the Amfar gala.

Richa Chadha looked fresh in a powder pink peplum gown by Gauri and Nainika. She was there for the premiere of her movie,  Masaan, which reportedly got a five-minute standing ovation. At times ‘keeping it simple’ works perfect. What Elie Saab or Ralph and Russo or Oscar de la Renta insanely priced couture gowns may not achieve can be achieved by our desi talented designers.

By the way, did you know that if you are not wearing heels, you are not allowed at a premiere at Cannes? Yes, it is a strict dress code at Cannes and at the screening of Carol many ladies were denied entry for walking in in rhinestone flats.
