As the playful little Hanuman swings into the little dark room, the lights slowly dawn upon the wood-lined walls of Akshara Theatre. This ardent devotee of Lord Rama begins telling a tale that’s been told so often—it’s irreplaceably etched out our memories. This time round, a talented bunch of students from Akshara, who’ve been training there for sometime, showcase their talent in this improvised presentation called Rama’s Story, based on Gopal Sharman’s theatrical masterpiece The Ramayana.

While, Gopal Sharman and Jalabala Vaidya’s grandson Dhruv Shetty plays Rama, their granddaughter Yashna Shetty plays Kaikeyi. Sita is played by Sufi Dharma. The story is essentially told through the frisky Hanuman played by Puneet Saraswat. The imposing Ravana is played by Vijay S Kumar. Supporting artistes Ankur Anand, R S Raghu, Avi Kapoor and others play their parts well. First-time performer Gurjas Singh, who plays laxman, steals the show with his stage presence. To watch them in action, visit Akshara on November 15 (today) at 6 pm. Tickets are available on bookmyshow.com and at the theatre at Baba Kharak Singh Marg.
