Single Colour for Army Berets

To bring uniformity, Army Headquarters has asked all its personnel to wear green berets. Various regiments and units of the Army wear berets of different colours. According to the practice followed by militaries across the world, infantry units wear one coloured berets. It is the standard headgear for the Indian Army, worn by all ranks, apart from the turbaned Sikhs. According to an internal note circulated to all nine Army commands by Army Headquarters, “All infantrymen will wear dark green beret (colloquially called rifle green) from April 1.” Green berets are worn by infantry regiments and military intelligence, dark green by light infantry regiments (including the mechanised infantry regiment), maroon by the parachute regiment and special forces, and navy blue by the Artillery regiment, to name a few.
