A political family has its own restrictions. Nine-year-old Prisha Singh wants to be able to go out and play without being under the constant watch of her cautious mother. Daughter of Lok Sabha MP Parvesh Varma, Prisha wants the city to be safe enough to be allowed out on their own.

Prisha’s older sister Sanidhi (13) studies in Class VIII; their young brother Shiven Singh is in Class I. Both say they want to take their father’s position when they grow up. “I want to follow in my father’s footsteps. People will call me Shiven Singh, the leader,” says the little boy.

Unlike her two siblings, politics doesn’t attract the younger grand-daughter of former Delhi Chief Minister Sahib Singh Varma. Rather, she wants to be a businesswoman. “I want to have something of my own. I want to earn my own money and don’t want to ask anyone,” she says, adding that she is closest to her mother Swati.

After studying at DPS, RK Puram till Class IV, she followed her older sister to Mayo College Girls’ School in Ajmer early this month. It’s her first experience of a hostel and, like many other first-timers, she has been asking her mother to take her back home.

Ask her what she feels about Delhi, and Prisha says: “The Odd-Even scheme was successful because of the winter break. They should make better roads. Arvind Kejriwal seems to have fooled everyone.”

What does Smart City mean to you?

When we travel abroad, we see other cities are very clean. Swachh Bharat should make India clean. Less traffic.

Do you think Delhi is or can  be a Smart City?

If people travel by clean Metros and buses in other cities, why can’t we do in Delhi? Buses in Delhi should be good.

Things you like about Delhi.

Visits to the India Gate at night to have ice cream; Siri Fort sports complex. Republic Day Parade. Malls.

Things you don’t like about the city.

Too much traffic, Pollution. Extreme weather conditions. Can’t go out to play on our own, but always under watch.

How would you improve the city if you were the Chief Minister?

I will make the city clean and safe so that children can go out and play. I will make good roads.
