Playing Popularity Card in Pink Bastion

Hyderabad conquered, TRS looks set to sweep Warangal local body elections.
Playing Popularity Card in Pink Bastion

HYDERABAD:As the TRS juggernaut continues to roll on in elections, the pink party and its star campaigner in the recently-held Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) elections, KT Rama Rao have set themselves a target of a whitewash in the ensuing Greater Warangal Municipal Corporation (GWMC) elections too.

KT Rama Rao, popularly known as KTR, architect of the party’s historic win in the capital and son of Chief Minister and TRS boss K Chandrasekhar Rao, has begun leading the party campaign in the elections to the Warangal municipal corporation, which is state’s second-biggest city.

The Greater Warangal city has 58 wards and the TRS is eyeing to win all of them. KTR, who successfully steered the party to a stupendous victory in GHMC elections, not only wants to repeat the feat in the Warangal civic body election but also wants to wipe out the opposition from the state’s second-biggest city.

According to sources, KTR has embarked on ‘Mission 58’ to win all wards in the GWMC polls as the city is a stronghold of the pink party. In the run-up to the GHMC polls, the TRS had set itself on ‘Mission 80’ and the vigorous campaign of Rama Rao and his sister and Nizamabad MP K Kavitha, and the entire brigade of TRS elected representatives and leaders ensured that the party not only crossed the magic figure but almost wiped out the entire opposition, barring its ally MIM, from the GHMC poll scene.

KTR wants to repeat the same feat now in Warangal too. In Greater Hyderabad, where settlers comprise a major part of electorate, the TRS could make inroads into the bastions of the TDP and BJP, who had earlier won a majority of Assembly seats from Greater Hyderabad in the 2014 elections.  However, in Greater Warangal, the TRS need not worry about settlers mood. Moreover, all the five Assembly constituencies in the city—Warangal East, Warangal West, Parakal, Station Ghanpur and Wardhannapet—are being represented by the TRS.

The state government headed by the TRS had already started planning for winning the mayoral seat long ago with the launch of double bedroom housing project for poor. KTR, who already kick-started the campaign has begun banking on these schemes to go to the people. The absence of star campaigners in TDP-BJP and Congress camps will work in favour of the TRS which has always received a clear mandate from the people of Warangal district.
