THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Public have been warned of H1N1 influenza. District Medical Officer informed people who are suffering from symptoms of fever, throat pain, running nose, laboured breathing, body pain, vomiting and dysentery to seek immediate medical help.
The disease can be more serious for pregnant women, children, elderly, those with bronchitis, diabetics, blood pressure, ailment to liver, brain and kidney ailments and those with long history of steroids. H1N1 is certainly not a disease to be treated with self prescription because it can be fatal, said the medical officer.
People with symptoms of H1N1 should take adequate rest.
It is contagious and hence use handkerchief needs to be used to cover nose and mouth while sneezing. Hands should be cleaned with soap regularly. Along with rest adequate intake of water and nutrients. Medicines for H1N1 are available at all government hospitals free of cost.
