Ankita Bhandari murder: BJP ex-minister's son nabbed for murdering teen; both expelled from party

Illegal structures outside Noida flat of politician Shrikant Tyagi bulldozed

Uttar Pradesh government officials on Monday morning used a bulldozer to remove encroachment done by absconding politician #ShrikantTyagi outside his #Noida residence. The action was carried out around 9 am by the Noida Authority to remove the illegal structures outside Tyagi's ground floor apartment in Grand Omaxe society in the city's Sector 93B, an official told PTI. Tyagi had encroached a portion of the common area of the society in front of his flat by constructing temporary structures using pillars and tiles.

Three Jharkhand Congress MLAs detained with Rs 49.8 crore in West Bengal; Congress accuses BJP

Police in West Bengal's Howrah district on July 31 seized "a huge amount of cash" from a car in which three Congress MLAs from Jharkhand were travelling, leading to allegations of political "horse-trading". The three MLAs have been detained for questioning about the source of the money. Meanwhile, the party has suspended all three MLAs. Acting on a tip-off, police on July 30 had intercepted an SUV in which Congress MLAs Irfan Ansari, Rajesh Kachchap, and Naman Bixal Kongari were travelling on National Highway-16 at Ranihati in Howrah and allegedly found a huge amount of cash in the vehicle.

The BJP on July 28 accused the Congress of "demeaning" President Droupadi Murmu and demanded an apology after its leader Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury called her "rashtrapatni". Gujarat Hooch Tragedy: Over 40 dead; 50 hospitalised

Atleast 40 people have died after consuming spurious liquor in Gujarat's Botad district, while over 50 people are undergoing treatment at various hospitals in Bhavnagar, Botad and Ahmedabad. The hooch tragedy broke out on the morning of July 25 after people living in Rojid and surrounding villages fell ill and rushed to the government hospitals seeking remedy. According to police, forensic analysis has established that the victims consumed methyl alcohol.

India's first tribal woman President Droupadi Murmu takes oath; 'watershed moment', says Modi

Droupadi Murmu scripts history by becoming the first-ever tribal woman to hold President's post. She is also the youngest to hold the office of the President, adding more to her many firsts. Murmu, who is now the second woman President of the country, was administered the oath of office by CJI NV Ramana on Monday.
