An Andhra Pradesh-registered lorry had broken down on the highway in the evening. Three mechanics, who also reportedly hail from the same state.
Yarayya was one of the manual scavengers who was hurriedly roped in to clean a manhole on the Kaggadaspura main road past midnight on Monday.
BWSSB had issued a notice to the company, warning it that its bills would not be cleared if the work is not proper.
The supervisor who also died in the incident, was allegedly pressurised to fix the manhole in CV Raman Nagar by Ramky contractors.
Manhole cleaners don’t only work in hell-like conditions, they live in similar conditions.
This is not the first brush with controversy for the Ramky Infrastructure Limited which has several contracts with government and civic agencies.
