Some senior party leaders like Ashok Gehlot, Ghulam Nahi Azad and Anand Sharma said in the meeting 'there was no need for elections now due COVID-19 pandemic.
Following the meeting, they also sent a formal request to Sonia Gandhi emphasising that under the existing scenario none other than Rahul would be suitable for the post.
The Congress has lost most elections since the last Lok Sabha polls and though it has managed to win in Tamil Nadu, it was with the support of its bigger ally and regional player DMK.
It is noteworthy that all the aforementioned leaders were signatories to the letter written by over 20 leaders in which they had sought sweeping changes.

The pro reform leaders are further learnt to have called for free and fair organizational polls from the block up to the working committee level.
Congress spokesperson Randeep Surjewala said, CWC has given Congress President the right to make changes to restructure the party, a plan for this will be brought soon.
