At least 10 young men from the Ambasamudram police division in Tamil Nadu have come forward, alleging that Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Balveer Singh IPS tortured them by removing their teeth with cutting pliers and, in the case of two men, crushing their testicles.Tamil Nadu CM, MK Stalin, informed the State Assembly on March 29 that ASP Balveer Singh has been placed under suspension.
In a big setback for O Panneerselvam, the Madras High Court on March 28 dismissed his plea, paving the way for interim chief Edappadi K Palaniswami’s (EPS) elevation as the AIADMK general secretary, its top, powerful post. Madras HC refused to stay election to the post of general secretary of AIADMK. HC also dismissed pleas moved by the OPS faction challenging the resolutions passed in the July 11, 2022, general council of the party.

In a major setback for AIADMK leader E Palaniswami, the Madras High Court ruled that his appointment as the party's general secretary is not valid. It also reinstated former Tamil Nadu chief minister O Panneerselvam as the coordinator of the AIADMK. On the issue of party leadership, the court has now ordered a status quo as on June 23. Justice G Jayachandran made it clear that the general council meeting can only be convened jointly by the coordinator and joint coordinator of the party. Hence, the general council meeting that happened on July 11, in which Edappadi K Palaniswami was made the interim general secretary, stands invalid.

Presenting the first full-fledged budget of the DMK government led by Chief Minister MK Stalin today, Finance Minister Palanivel Thiaga Rajan brought cheers to the state's economy by announcing that the revenue deficit which has been going up in an alarming trend since 2014 will be reversed this year. The revenue deficit is expected to be reduced by Rs.7,000 crore - i.e, it will go down from 4.61 percent to 3.80 percent. He said concrete steps taken by the state government and efficient administration has made this possible.

The DMK government presented the revised budget for 2021-22 at 10 am on August 13 at the Kalaivanar Arangam. Finance Minister PTR Palanivel Thiaga Rajan presented a paperless budget for the first time. PTR stated that this is the first time in the country that a state is presenting an e-budget. The Budget comes days after PTR brought out a white paper on the state's finances.
