Delhi flood: Yamuna water level reaches highest-ever mark at 207.55m; breaks 45-yr record

The Yamuna water level in Delhi has breached the all-time record of 207.49 metres set in 1978 and is now flowing at 207.55 metres. Delhi recorded a rapid increase in the Yamuna water level over the last three days. CM Arvind Kejriwal called an emergency meeting as Delhi Police imposed Section 144 in flood-prone areas in the national capital.

40-year-old woman shot at inside Saket court in Delhi, rushed to hospital

A 40-year-old woman was shot multiple times here at a local court in the national capital on Friday by a man with whom she was undergoing a legal battle in a case of cheating. According to a senior Delhi Police official, the incident of firing was reported at Saket Court in south Delhi around 10.30 am. The injured woman, identified as Radha, a resident of southwest Delhi, received three bullet injuries -- two in the abdomen and one in the hand.

Yamuna polluted beyond threshold level, aquatic life declines sharply

The Yamuna river’s stretch in the Delhi NCR region has become the most polluted part of the river over the last three years. The section in Uttar Pradesh comes next. In its upper stream, Haryana’s stretch of the river is the most polluted. Delhi has the highest level of Biological Oxygen Demand (BOD) among all its stretches of the Yamuna river. BOD is the amount of oxygen needed to remove waste organic matter from water.

BBC documentary: Delhi Police detain 24 students from DU for planning to screen film

Delhi Police on Friday detained 24 students from the Delhi University's Arts Faculty for planning to screen the controversial BBC documentary on the 2002 Godhra riots. The action comes days after a similar ruckus at Jawaharlal Nehru University and Jamia Millia Islamia over the documentary's screening. There was heavy police deployment at the north campus after students' groups gave a call to screen the documentary.

Severe cold grips north India, temp drops to -4.7* Celsius in Rajasthan's Sikar

Cold wave conditions once again gripped northwest India on January 15. Many parts of Rajasthan record a minimum temperature in the range of 1-3°C . While Fatehpur in Sikar dist. of Rajasthan recorded a minimum temperature of -4.7°C . It was the lowest minimum temperature over the plains of northwest India. Delhi’s Safdarjung observatory recorded a minimum temperature of 4.7°C.

Very dense fog hits Delhi; at least 150 flights, 29 trains delayed

Cold wave grips north; minimum temp recorded below freezing point at 0.6°C in Rajasthan

A severe cold wave has gripped many parts of northern India, with temp plummeting to -6°C (21F) in Kashmir. The famous Dal Lake has partially frozen making it hard for boatmen to ferry passengers and tourists. Almost entire Rajasthan is reeling under severe cold. The minimum temperature in many areas were recorded below the freezing point for several consecutive days. On Jan 7 night, the minimum temperature was recorded at 0.0°C in Churu and 0.6°C in Pilani.

Northern states continue to reel under cold wave; Delhi records 1.8°C at Aya Nagar

Cold conditions continued to prevail in northern states with min temperatures remaining below normal. Delhi continues to reel under a severe cold wave, with temperatures dropping to a numbing 1.8°C. The max temperatures in Haryana and Punjab, including Chandigarh, have dropped sharply, settling between 11°C and 15°C.

Kanjhawala accident: Accused were aware but deliberately dragged victim, claims eyewitness

An eyewitness identified by the police in the Kanjhawala accident case has revealed clinching details of the horrific accident which lead to the death of 20-year-old Anjali Kumari on New Year's day. Nidhi, a lone eyewitness and the victim's friend, said she had been riding pillion on Anjali's scooter when the incident took place. She also alleged that the accused deliberately kept driving despite knowing that the victim was stuck underneath the vehicle.
