HC issues notice to Centre, Delhi govt over direction to permit operation of public transport in districts
The PIL, filed by Shreesh Chadha, has sought appropriate direction to the respondent to frame guidelines to ensure safety and hygiene of the passengers and public transport operators.
With the free rides, the state government also deployed 13,000 bus marshals to ensure women’s safety which according to Priya Bagel, a DU student, has led to many of her friends opting for buses.
The city, which has already been woefully short on public transport for a long time, saw around 15 lakh private vehicles go off the roads on the first day of the return of the ‘Odd-Even’ plan.
The buses are equipped with modern features such as GPS trackers, panic buttons, CCTV cameras and hydraulic lifts for the convenience of the differently-abled.
