The Euro 2020 game between Denmark and Finland was suspended for about 90 minutes after Christian Eriksen's collapse.
Denmark coach Kasper Hjulmand heaped praise on his team after they returned to the field to complete the match.
Finland was making its debut at a major tournament but what should have been the biggest win in the country's soccer history was completely overshadowed by Eriksen's medical emergency.
Group B's opening match was stopped after Eriksen fell to the earth near the touchline at the end of the first half, with Danish players in tears as medical staff tried to revive him.
The Danish midfielder was given chest compressions and as a result, it caused the suspension of the match in the first half.
Finland, though, showed great cohesiveness in qualifying for its first major tournament under coach Markku Kanerva.
