JDS president H D Deve Gowda on Monday dissolved the party unit in Kerala and appointed former minister Mathew T Thomas as the new president.

The former Prime Minister however did not wish to comment on possible reasons behind the violence, including speculation that infighting within the Congress might have led to it.
'From recent statements made by those involved in the negotiations it is apparent that distrust has crept in,' Gowda said in a statement.
Gowda told reporters in Hassan that the probe should be headed by a sitting High Court judge, who can be assisted by the Central Crime Branch.
