The State government has given administrative sanction for the release of `4,690 crore to power discoms to clear the dues to be paid to various financial agencies and banks.
The State-run power trading company Gridco is in a deep financial crisis due to non-payment of arrears and bulk supply bills by the distribution companies (Discoms).

The decision was taken at a meeting of State government officials and representatives of discoms at the Secretariat on Friday.
CM Arvind Kejriwal stated that electricity usage up to 200 units will be free and that the cost of this subsidy will be borne by the government, which is about Rs 1,800-2,000 crore per year.
The Discoms, which have outstanding liabilities of about Rs 19,000 crore sought the support of the State government in maintaining adequate flow of cash so that LCs can be opened and honoured
The CM has instructed Finance officials to prepare contingency plans to help power utilities as and when needed.
As the Discoms require money for giving the LCs, they requested the State government to give Rs 1,000 crore additional funds.
Discoms are expected to save as much as Rs 2.5 crore per day due to this system that allows states to access cheaper power first.
It has also opposed the NITI Aayog’s strategy paper to privatise the distribution of electricity throughout the country.
