19-year-old Coco Gauff is the third American teenager to win the US Open after Tracy Austin and Serena Williams.
Gauff showed great poise to remain unfazed after her match was halted for 49 minutes early in the second set when environmental activists staged a protest in the Arthur Ashe Stadium.
The 36-year-old Serbian star will appear in his 13th US Open semi-final, eclipsing the mark he shared with longtime nemesis Roger Federer for most appearances in the last four of a Grand Slam.
Gauff, whose best showing at a major was reaching the final at the 2022 French Open before losing to Swiatek, has now won 15 of her past 16 matches.
And as talented, speedy and smart as Gauff is, it’s her willingness to adapt and try to improve that make her someone to watch in New York — and beyond, of course.
Gauff’s advocacy emphasizes the importance of spreading CPR training as a practical method to promote a more secure and caring society.
