Gauri Lankesh was shot dead at the doorstep of her residence in Ideal Homes Layout in Rajarajeshwari Nagar in the night of September 5, 2017.
The accused had contended that no more than one chargesheet has been filed against them in the preceding 10 years of the crime and therefore KCOC Act could not be applied.
With 14 arrests so far across Karnataka and Maharashtra, the Special Investigation Team (SIT) of about 23 officers is set to submit its official report to the Karnataka government.
The deduction is based on a forensic evidence from a Gait Analysis report by the Directorate of Forensic Science, Gujarat.
The SIT has arrested 12 people including the alleged mastermind Amol Kale and sharpshooter Parashuram Waghmare.
It will apply to all the accused arrested in the case, before this it has to be approved by a review committee.
