The Kerala High Court on Friday asked the CBI whether there was any material to prove the involvement of foreign hands in framing false espionage cases against former ISRO scientists.
The depositions of the two scientists were submitted by CBI along with the statement filed in HC opposing the anticipatory bail plea of former Gujarat DGP R B Sreekumar, the seventh accused.
The CBI said its mandate is not just to investigate the torture of Nambi but also the torture suffered by all victims/accused persons in the espionage case.
The probe agency strongly suspects the involvement of Pakistan in the matter.
The interim relief was granted by Justice K Haripal on Sreekumar's plea seeking anticipatory bail in the case registered by the CBI for various offences.
The court also extended the interim order directing CBI not to arrest P.S.Jayaprakash, former Central intelligence officer and 11th accused in the case for two weeks.
Nothing will turn on the report. The report is only an initial information. Ultimately, CBI will conduct investigation which will have the consequences, the bench said.
Later in 1996, the CBI concluded that the case was fabricated and that resulted in discharge of all accused.
The documents were produced when their anticipatory bail pleas came up for hearing.
The two foreign women had not complained against the police when they were produced before the magistrate court concerned, they said.
