'Wearing Hijab not essential religious practice': HC dismisses petitions of Udupi college girls

 In a landmark judgment, the Karnataka High Court ruled that wearing of hijab by Muslim women is does not form essential religious practice in the Islamic faith and prescribing uniform is not a violation of fundamental rights guaranteed under Article 19(1)(a) and 25 of the Constitution.

Karnataka hijab row is a conspiracy: Kerala Governor | ThinkEdu 2022

Saying that the hijab is essential to Islam is an attempt to push back Muslim women into their homes, Kerala Governor Arif Mohammed Khan said at the second day of the 10th ThinkEdu Conclave organised by The New Indian Express on Wednesday, March 9. Speaking on the topic ‘Education: Victim of Identities’, he said that several Muslim women have broken the glass ceiling and have gone on to even join security forces. It would be a disservice to them to say that the hijab is intrinsic to Islam. It would push them into the guilt of not being able to follow an essential tenet of their faith, he added.

Russia-Ukraine War: Karnataka student killed in shelling, confirms MEA

Karnataka student from Haveri district died in an attack by Russian force at Kharkiv city of Ukraine on Tuesday morning. It is said Naveen, who stepped out from Arkhitektora Beketova Metro station bunker to bring groceries, died in a shell attack on the street of Kharkiv. The incident took place around 7 am of local Ukraine time.

Karnataka: Tension in Shivamogga after Bajrang Dal activist murder; security stepped up

A youth was brutally murdered in the city on Sunday night. The deceased has been identified as Harsha, a Bajrang Dal activist. Sources said that a gang of four to five persons murdered the man at Bharathi Colony at around 9 pm. Following the incident, tension prevailed across the city and police deployed forces in all the sensitive areas in the city.
