A day after the Kurangani hills forest fire tragedy, several questions were raised over the safety aspects of trekking, especially during the summer.
The trekking group trapped in forest fire at Kurangani hills in Bodi taluk of Theni went without obtaining permit and in future such illegitimate forays will strictly be prohibited.
The State Forest Department has been directed to take all necessary precautions to prevent forest fires while also banning trekking in the forests.
Stern action would be taken in the future against trekkers who undertake such expeditions without the state's permission, he said.
DMK Working President M K Stalin, AIADMK leader T T V Dhinakaran and PMK founder S Ramadoss, among others, condoled the death of nine trekkers in the Kurangani Hills fire.
Police said a couple of officials were deputed to make enquiries at the office of the group at Palavakkam here, but found it to be closed.
The CTC website does not have any name or number of the persons who are in-charge of the trekking expeditions.
