Sivasankar contacted Customs to clear gold-containing baggage, says ED arrest memo
The messages unearthed by the investigators said to have indicated that former principal secretary Sivasankar was overseeing money transactions of Swapna Suresh.
The sensational case of gold smuggling through diplomatic channel has made ED knock on the doors of CM’s former Principal Secretary M Sivasankar and Minister K T Jaleel among other leaders.
The ED had informed the court that Sivasankar, was a “conspirator” and key accused while Swapna Suresh, the key accused was only a “pawn”.
Talking to reporters in Malappuram on Wednesday, Mullapally said Pinarayi should step down if he has an iota of and respect remaining.
He will be taken to the ED office in Kochi. His arrest would be registered by evening.
The findings by the commission led by former civil aviation secretary Madhavan Nambiar as chairman and Dr Gulshan Rai, former cyber security coordinator, said procedural formalities were not followed
The counsel appearing for Sivasankar demanded the court to record the submission of NIA before disposing of the petition.
The ED submitted before the court that Sivasankar’s alleged links with Swapna can be established only through custodial interrogation.
The Customs is opposing the anticipatory bail plea of Sivasankar in the gold smuggling case. The court will consider the case on October 23.

On Sunday, he was subjected to more medical tests including an MRI, as he was diagnosed with a disc prolapse earlier.
According to the Customs Commissionerate (Preventive) Kochi, $1.9 lakh was sent to the UAe through the Thiruvananthapuram airport last year.
He was shifted to the hospitals by the Customs officials themselves and admitted to the cardiology ICU of the hospital where his wife works as a nephrologist.
