The Madras High Court on Wednesday granted conditional bail to former AIADMK minister M Manikandan who was arrested on charges of raping and cheating a Malaysian actress.
The counsel representing Manikandan objected to the entire submissions.
Former AIADMK minister M Manikandan, who was arrested on charges of rape, on Thursday sought bail from the Madras High Court.
This follows allegations that Manikandan was shifted to central prison after a surprise check found that a portable air conditioner and sofa-cum-bed was provided to him.
The prosecution during the hearing submitted that if the accused is released on bail at this earliest point of time, there is every chance to tamper with the investigation.
The issue pertains to the former minister moving the bail plea after the Madras High Court rejected his anticipatory bail petition.
M Manikandan was reportedly staying at a friend’s house in Anekal on the outskirts of Bengaluru when he was arrested.
Tamil Nadu police formed the team after Manikandan allegedly went absconding following the dismissal of an anticipatory bail plea in the Madras High Court.

The issue pertains to Dr M Manikandan, who was apprehending arrest following registration of a sexual harassment complaint from a Malaysia-based woman.
The Madras High Court on Thursday adjourned the anticipatory-bail petition moved by AIADMK former minister M Manikandan till June 9.
The actress had recently filed a police complaint alleging that the former minister had sexually abused her and forced her to abort. The Chennai police had registered a case on her complaint.
The actor had filed a complaint at the Chennai Police Commissioner’s office, accusing Manikandan of luring her into a relationship on the promise of marriage.
