Responding to the hanging, UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres' spokesperson Stephane Dujarric said the world organisation calls on all nations to stop the use of capital punishment.
The four convicts in the Nirbhaya case were hanged to death at 5:30 a.m. in Delhi's Tihar jail on Friday.

A close family friend recalling those times revealed that Dr Kandwal was not able to eat, sleep and follow the routine in a proper manner.
Nirbhaya's mother Asha Devi said that she will appeal to the Supreme Court to make guidelines so that the delay tactics used in her daughter's case are not repeated in future.
"I dedicate this day -- March 20 to all the women in the country because Nirbhaya got justice, today," she said.
Slogans of 'Nirbhaya zindabad' and 'live long Nirbhaya' were also raised.
Security has been tightened around the jail premises to keep a check on any untoward incident.
All four convicts - Akshay Thakur, Pawan Gupta, Vinay Sharma, and Mukesh Singh - were hanged today in New Delhi's Tihar jail.
"Their deed was inhumane. We will stand here to show our solidarity with the victim," said another local.
With the end of all legal recourse, the four convicts of the Nirbhaya gang rape and murder case will be finally executed on Friday early morning.
The Delhi High Court trashed a desperate petition of four Nirbhaya death row convicts on Thursday night, paving the way for their hanging on Friday morning.
The top court later refused to pass any order in this regard and leave the matter the Solicitor General.
All four convicts - Akshay Thakur, Pawan Gupta, Vinay Sharma, and Mukesh Singh - are scheduled to be hanged at 5:30 am today.
Pawan's lawyer said he filed the plea after getting information that the Supreme Court had dismissed Gupta's curative petition.
