PM Modi commissions India's first indigenous aircraft carrier INS Vikrant

PM Modi commissioned the first indigenous aircraft carrier, #INSVikrant in a ceremony at Cochin Shipyard Limited in Kochi. Vikrant is designed by the Indian Navy's in-house Warship Design Bureau (WDB) and built by Cochin Shipyard Limited. Vikrant has been built with state-of-the-art automation features and is the largest ship ever built in the maritime history of India. The Indigenous Aircraft Carrier is named after her illustrious predecessor, India's first aircraft carrier, which had played a vital role in the 1971 war.

Rahul, Priyanka, Tharoor detained as Delhi Police crack down upon Congress march

Several Congress MPs, including #RahulGandhi and Shashi Tharoor, were detained by police during a protest against the central government on price rises and unemployment. Wearing black clothes, Congress MPs staged a protest in the Parliament House complex on August 5th as they marched towards the Rashtrapati Bhawan as part of their nationwide stir. They were, however, stopped by the Delhi Police and were not allowed to proceed toward the Rashtrapati Bhawan.

Amar Prasad Reddy, president of the sports and skill development cell of Tamil Nadu BJP, released a video clip of him fixing photographs of Modi on hoardings, along with two others.

Amarnath cloudburst: 16 dead, over 40 missing; rescue operations underway

At least 16 people died and more than 40 are reported missing after a cloudburst near Amarnath in Jammu and Kashmir on July 8. 15,000 stranded pilgrims have been shifted to the lower base camp of Panjtarni. Rescue operations began immediately by the Border Security Force, Indo-Tibetan Border Police and disaster management agencies. Following the tragedy, the Amarnath Yatra has been suspended.

Himachal: 16, including school children, killed as bus falls into gorge; PM announces ex-gratia

Sixteen passengers, including some school children, were killed as a private bus fell into a gorge in Himachal Pradesh's Kullu district on Monday, district officials said. The bus was on its way to Sainj from Shainsher when it fell into the gorge at a hairpin bend near Jangla village at around 8.30 am, they added. The bus was carrying over 30 passengers, including several school children, they added. The president and prime minister have condoled the loss of lives in the accident. The Prime Minister has approved an ex-gratia of Rs 2 lakh each from Prime Minister's National Relief Fund (PMNRF) for the next of kin of those who have lost their lives due to the tragic bus accident in Himachal Pradesh, the Prime Minister's Office said in another tweet. The injured would be given Rs 50,000 each, it said.

India’s unemployment problem surges to 7.83% in April

India’s unemployment problem shot up to 7.83% in April from 7.60% in March, according to the latest data released by the Centre for Monitoring Indian Economy (CMIE).Due to lack of decent jobs in cities, unemployment in urban areas is worse than that in rural, the data show. While rural data showed a marginal drop in unemployment from 7.29% in March to 7.18% in April, urban joblessness saw a sharp spike to 9.22% in April from 8.28% a month ago.
