Director of the department G.Sriramulu said the number of new cases reported on Sunday was 78 and it fell to 37 today.
The union territory recorded 42 fresh cases as against the 60 recorded on Sunday, Director of the Department G Sriramulu said in a release.
They were admitted to the Indira Gandhi Government Medical College Hospital at Kadirkamam near here.
The test positivity rate was 2.15 percent while fatality and recovery rates were 1.49 percent and 97.35 percent respectively.
While 171 patients recovered and were discharged from healthcare facilities in the last 24 hours, the overall recoveries in the union territory stood at 1,15,873, he added.
The test positivity rate was 3.27 percent today while fatality and recovery rates were 1.50 percent and 95.19 percent respectively.
With five more people succumbing to the disease the toll rose to 1,696.
The people did not know where to go and seek help, he said.
Milk and essential services would continue to be available and the government is keen that livelihood sources should not suffer any setback.
The Health Department Director said that the fatality and recovery rates were 1.41 per cent and 81.04 per cent respectively.
While 23 of the total deceased hailed from Puducherry, five were from Karaikal and one from Mahe region.
