The stretches on Kurnool and Vijayawada highways had slow moving traffic as people continued to return to Hyderabad till late on Sunday night.
The VMC organised Sankranti Sambaralu with gaiety and pomp at Indira Gandhi Municipal Corporation (IGMC) Stadium in the city on Wednesday.
Trains will ply from Narsapur to Secunderabad on January 16, 17 and 18, and from Machilipatnam to Secunderabad on January 19.
Earlier, flying kites used to start almost a month before the festival but now, people only fly kites on the day of Sankranti to mark the festivity.
According to officials, a majority of the buses, around 3,172 services, would be plying on Telangana routes, while 1,118 services would be catering to those travel on AP routes.
Speaking to media persons in Tadepallegudem, the YSRC MP expressed confidence that Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy too will support the tradition.
