The growing differences between Akhilesh Yadav and Pragatisheel Samajwadi Party (PSP) president and SP MLA Shivpal Singh Yadav resurfaced after the latter was not invited to a recent party meeting.
Giving words to his pain, Shivpal tweeted: "I tried to satisfy him by touching the nadir of my self-respect! Despite this, if I am angry...to what extent he must have given pain to my heart."
Shivpal Yadav won the recent assembly polls on an SP ticket but has signalled his growing closeness to the BJP after the results.
Shivpal Singh Yadav was, however, not invited for a meeting of SP MLAs soon after the results came in. Since then he has thrown hints that he might cross over to the BJP.
Earlier, Yadav had followed PM Narendra Modi and Uttar Pradesh CM Yogi Adityanath on Twitter, along with former deputy CM Dinesh Sharma.
This comes amid speculation that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) may anoint the Pragatisheel Samajwadi Party Lohia (PSPL) chief as the Deputy Speaker of the UP Assembly
The meeting assumes significance in light of the Samajwadi Party chief’s uncle Shivpal Yadav’s bonhomie with the BJP.
Akhilesh Yadav met party patriarch and his father Mulayam Singh Yadav in the national capital for two hours but what transpired between them was not known.
It is being speculated that the BJP might send Shivpal Yadav to the Rajya Sabha and give his Jaswantnagar Assembly seat to his son Aditya Yadav.
“It is not an appropriate time to say anything. However, I would take this opportunity to assure my party leaders not to get worried about the future,” said Shivpal Yadav
The development comes amid widening rift between Shivpal, who won the recent Assembly election from Jaswantnagar in Etawah on SP symbol, and his nephew and SP chief Akhilesh Yadav.
Shivpal, who is an MLA from Jaswantnagar in Etawah on SP symbol, however, called it a courtesy call meant to greet Yogi on his victory and return to power in UP.
Even Apna Dal (K) leader Pallavi Patel, who had contested the assembly election on SP symbol from Sirathu defeating BJP’s Keshav Maurya, did not make it to the meeting.
With Akhilesh set to become leader of opposition in UP assembly, things not hunky-dory with his uncle
Akhilesh was unanimously elected as leader of the SP legislative party by newly elected MLAs of his party in Lucknow on Saturday.
The SP MLA from Jaswant Nagar seat said he will work according to the will of the party, but at the same time wondered why he was not invited to the meet while all the other MLAs were.
