The withdrawal of the southwest monsoon from northwest India usually begins from September 17.
Though Kerala received widespread rainfall, there was a 16 percent deficit in the Southwest Monsoon. However, the state received copious rains from October 1 to 20 which helped overcome the deficit.
The next two days would be mainly dry. Thereafter, light to moderate rain or thundershowers is expected at isolated places.
This is the second-most delayed withdrawal of the Southwest Monsoon since 1975 after the 2019 monsoon that started retreating only on October 9 that year, according to IMD.
The southwest monsoon is likely to have an extended run in the state this time as the India Meteorological Department’s (IMD) weather indicators show.
There is a possibility of light to moderate rain or thundershowers at isolated places in Telangana this week.
Rainfall in the range of 96-104 is normal whereas precipitation in the range of 90-96 is classified as below normal.

Mahesh Palawat of Skymet Weather, a private forecasting agency, said the monsoon made a "weak onset" over Delhi and only patchy rainfall is predicted in the city over the next three days.
