The Punjab and Haryana High Court had on September 8 dismissed his plea for quashing the case or transferring it to the CBI for further investigation.
Sources said the SIT has named Saini and Umranangal in the FIR in the Behbal Kalan case registered at the Bajakhana police station.
The bench questioned the senior advocate Siddharth Luthra, appearing for the Punjab government that what is the hurry in arresting Punjab SGP Sumedh Singh Saini after 29 years of the case.

Saini and six other police officers were booked for alleged kidnapping, torture, and elimination of Balwant Singh Multani, a junior engineer in 1991 and son of a former Punjab cadre IAS officer.
It has directed police to arrest Saini and produce him before the court by September 25, according to an order.
On May 6 this year, Saini, along with six other police officers, was booked in a 29-year-old case of custodial torture of former CITCO employee Balwant Singh Multani.
The case was registered on the complaint of Palwinder Singh Multani, son of the late IAS officer Darshan Singh Multani.
