The Collegium has deferred its decision on the proposal for elevation of four other advocates -- Krishnendu Datta, Saurabh Kirpal, Priya Kumar, and Sanjoy Ghose.
Supreme Court Collegium met today to deliberate on several issues, including reconsidering the name of Uttarakhand Chief Justice K M Joseph for elevation to the top court.
Going a step ahead, Congress said the collegium could even slap a contempt of court notice on the government if it does not follow the recommendation a second time.
The move comes a day after government cleared appointment of senior advocate Indu Malhotra as Supreme Court judge and kept in abeyance a decision on Joseph, who heads the Uttarakhand High Court.
Union law ministry sends back recommendations to the Collegium; CJI to hold fresh round of talks with big four today.
