Since midnight, the Fire and Rescue Services personnel and rock climbers have been engaged in rescuing the trapped workers. Two persons have been saved so far. Presenting the first full-fledged budget of the DMK government led by Chief Minister MK Stalin today, Finance Minister Palanivel Thiaga Rajan brought cheers to the state's economy by announcing that the revenue deficit which has been going up in an alarming trend since 2014 will be reversed this year. The revenue deficit is expected to be reduced by Rs.7,000 crore - i.e, it will go down from 4.61 percent to 3.80 percent. With #Covid19 cases on the rise, #TamilNadu Chief Minister MK Stalin on Monday announced the extension of existing lockdown norms till January 31 and imposition of a few more restrictions. Significantly, places of worship will be closed for public use from January 14 to 18, when #Pongal is celebrated, and a complete lockdown will be imposed on January 16 (Sunday). While the State has also postponed semester exams indefinitely, jallikattu events have been permitted for Pongal, with restrictions.
