Heatwave grips India as mercury nears 45°C, Prayagraj hottest

Heatwave conditions prevailed on April 19 as the temperature crossed the 40°C mark in most parts of the country. The temperature in several states has touched over 44°C, and in many places, schools have been shut. Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh, has been the hottest place in the country for the last two days, with temperatures reaching 44.2°C. IMD said that, both West Bengal and Bihar are likely to experience heatwave conditions in some parts and severe heatwave conditions in isolated areas for the next 24 hours.

Over 100 arrested in 'largest-ever' NIA raids in 11 states over terror funding charges

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) launched a nationwide probe on September 22 and raided the premises linked to Popular Front Of India (PFI) in several states, government sources said. As many as 106 PFI leaders and functionaries have been arrested across 10 states, including Uttar Pradesh, Kerala, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Karnataka and Tamil Nadu.

Lucknow: 9 dead as army wall collapses due to heavy rain; city waterlogged

At least nine people were killed after the boundary wall of an Army enclave collapsed following heavy rains in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh. Lakhimpur Kheri: Two Dalit minor sisters raped, strangulated to death; six held

Bodies of two minor Dalit sisters aged 17 and 15 were found hanging from a tree in Nighasan area of Lakhimpur Kheri district of UP on Sept 14 evening. A local resident spotted the bodies of the sisters in a sugarcane field, which is around half-a-km from their house. As the news spread, angry locals staged a protest and also blocked a road. The autopsy was conducted by a panel of three doctors in the presence of the victim's family. According to the autopsy report, the girls were raped and strangulated to death.

India sees spike in new Covid cases, reports 7,584 infections & 24 deaths

India continues to witness an upward trend in new Covid-19 cases. The country recorded 7,584 new cases and 24 deaths on June 10. The active covid 19 cases rose to 36,267. The number of deaths has climbed to 5,24,747 with 24 more fatalities. The 24 new fatalities include 17 from Kerala, two each from Delhi and Rajasthan and one each from Maharashtra, Sikkim and Uttar Pradesh.
