UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath directed officials to ensure rescue and relief work on a war footing. He also announced a compensation of Rs 2 lakh each to the next of kin of those who died.
The truck overturned when the driver tried to take a turn, Station House Officer of the Bharatkoop police station Sanjay Upadhyay said.
Of the injured, 16 have been referred to Varanasi for treatment, out of which the condition of 10 people is stated to be serious.
Police officials said that the accident site is approximately 40 kilometres away from the district headquarters.
The district officials reached the site of the accident soon after receiving information and rescued the workers with the help of a crane.
The major accident happened in Auraiyya where 24 migrant labourers were killed and over 35 others injured when a truck carrying them was hit by DCM mini-truck on Saturday.
