The new vehicle scrappage policy announced by the Centre is impractical and unscientific, Transport Minister Antony Raju said here on Saturday.
The vehicle scrappage policy will bring in investments of around Rs 10,000 crore, he said.
13 per cent of the buses in the district are old, and a majority of them are being operated as Palle Velugu and city services.
The Policy proposes to de-register commercial vehicles after 15 years and private vehicles after 20 years if they fail to pass the auto fitness test.
Gadkari added that under the new vehicle scrappage policy, owners of old vehicles will get strong incentives to scrap old and unfit vehicles.
